Ladder hibernation
Quote:
Automated Tournament ladders for GvG and 1v1 will reactivate at Noon Pacific time (-8 GMT) on Friday, January 4, 2008. After the reactivation, combatants and guilds that have not played in a rated match for more than 90 days will be reverted to the rank "N/A" and removed from their respective ladders. Their rating points, however, will not be lost or changed. Once inactive guilds and players return and participate in a rated match, their ranks will return to the ladder positions warranted by their ratings.

This is a new's copy from www.guildwars.com website. So they finally did what we asked, there is ladder hibernation.
Discuss.

Any bets on how many active guilds there will be left? I predict less than 200 guilds with over 1000 rating.

Does the 90 day clause activate tomorrow, or will it consider 90 days prior to tomorrow?

What I can think there shouldn't be a reason to it to not work immediatly.

While you are here, can you answer the question that does the 90 day hibernation stay immediatly, or does it take 3 months to start take effect?

It sounds to me like it's going to be 3 months from now, but yeah, Andrew are you still there? We would very much like a confirmation

I disagree, it sounds like it will consider all guilds that haven't played for 90 days immediately after the change and will continue taking guilds off as time goes on.

Which gives us an even better incentive to drag Andrew back into this forum.

90 days is a bit soft, I would have made it less but it's better than nothing. Most of the ladder problems are the guilds that made their way onto it by using a greater Q value than what is available now on the general ladder. They pushed up the overall rating in "good times" and many parked there. It's very hard nowadays for a guild to get up to the same rating with the extremely low current Q value unless they AT, and most guilds don't AT. Merely preserving their rating until next play does not address this rating creep issue the legacy of which goes back before the introduction of AT's when the general ladder Q was much higher, only a proper reset or rating decay system will address that problem.

I agree that 90 days is a bit soft... I was thinking that something like 45 days, or even 30 days would better address the issue.

The ladder reset early 2007 and all of the guilds on the ladder now have used the same K value, there are no legacy issues. A lot of guilds may have gotten on the ladder via ATs, but there is nothing to prevent folks from doing that now.

I think more information is needed.
If all it takes is 1 gvg per 90 days to keep your guild from being eaten by the N/A Monster then people will more than likely invite 3 alt accounts into a inactive guild, gvg and at minute 2 resign spike.
O look our guild is now back on the ladder.
if the threshold is going to be 90 days, then what is the requirement for coming out of N/A?
please not 1 match. that seems kinda pointless, imo

To the best of my knowledge there has not been a ladder reset since the introduction of AT's when the general ladder K value was lowered to 5.
Andrew can you confirm this?

There was a ladder reset right at the introduction of the current rating system. You can be sure that every guild on the ladder got there using the current rating system.
